OK, I might as well put my $.02 in here.

I just ordered a 10/54 desktop machine. I plan on hooking it up to the same
network as my SS2 and sharing home directories with NFS. This turns it into
a server, according to Sun, so I have to buy the multi-user license upgrade.
I grumble a little, but I can handle the additional $1200 list.

I also have to buy two more licenses, to upgrade Solaris from single to dual
processor, and from dual to multi processor. Another $5000 list. Apparently,
converting a desktop to a server invalidates the multi processor license that
comes with the desktop.

I argued with two Sun sales reps for two weeks about this. The outcome was
"If you want that machine, you've got to buy these licenses."

Grr.
