Solaris shell archives - summary

Reading the shell installer more revealed a uuencoded/embedded compressed tar
file from line 1088 [EOF] onwards

Code in script reads :

tail +1088 $0 > $tmpdir/servicebundle.tar.Z
uncompress -f servicebundle.tar.Z

Experimentation reveals that it is simply a call to uuencode outside the
script that enables you to embed archives into self extracting/installing
shell scripts:

uuencode example.tar.Z example.tar.Z >> installer-script

Once the archive is embedded into the script suitable code can be created [see
example] to extract/process the archive.
