Thanks to all who responded. General consensus: 1) Remove all SDS patches and packages before installing the new version 2) Save a copy of md.tab, transfer it into /etc/lvm once the upgrade is complete, then pretend it is a new box: create metadb entries, metainit all of the partitions in /etc/lvm/md.tab, edit the /etc/vfstab file again, do a metaroot, and reboot.
