Okay thanks to Steve Hastings and Mike Kail.
The answer is in the /etc/path_to_inst file.

search for "network" you'll find something like this

"/pci@1f,4000/pci@2/SUNW,qfe@2,1" 2 "qfe"
"/pci@1f,4000/pci@2/SUNW,qfe@3,1" 3 "qfe"
"/pci@1f,4000/pci@2/SUNW,qfe@0,1" 0 "qfe"
"/pci@1f,4000/pci@2/SUNW,qfe@1,1" 1 "qfe"
"/pci@1f,4000/network@1,1" 0 "hme"

I just changed all of the pci@2 to pci@1
(or whatever slot your qfe card is installed in).

Subject: default interfaces

I dd'ed a boot drive from a 1405t to put into another 1405t.
The hardware is identical, except that the qfe cards are in different slots.

Now I get an error like this..

ifconfig: SIOCSLIFNAME for ip: qfe1: no such interface
Sep 7 17:29:17 tulenlweb02 ip: ip_rput_dlpi(qfe1): DL_ERROR_ACK for
DL_ATTACH_REQ(11), errno 8, unix 0
Sep 7 17:29:17 tulenlweb02 ip: ip_rput_dlpi(qfe1): DL_ERROR_ACK for
DL_BIND_REQ(1), errno 3, unix 0
Sep 7 17:29:17 tulenlweb02 ip: ip_rput_dlpi(qfe1): DL_ERROR_ACK for
DL_PHYS_ADDR_REQ(49), errno 3, unix 0
Sep 7 17:29:17 tulenlweb02 ip: ip_rput_dlpi(qfe1): DL_ERROR_ACK for
DL_UNBIND_REQ(2), errno 3, unix 0
Sep 7 17:29:17 tulenlweb02 ip: ip_rput_dlpi(qfe1): DL_ERROR_ACK for
DL_DETACH_REQ(12), errno 3, unix 0

I've tried to unplumb these interfaces, and then plumb the correct ones, but
it tells me there is no
such interface, even though I know there is. I have removed all of my
/etc/hostname.* files
and rebooted with -r but it still find the correct interfaces. Any ideas?
