Hi gurus.

I want to thank several people to thank for their responses: Val Popa, David
B. Harrington, Nicholas Tang, The V. Tran, Don Harris, vdhuru, Elizabeth
Lee, Dana, and Pankaj Anand (email addresses omitted).

Most said that it's best to get to swapped out ASAP. A couple suggested
that this error is small and not worrisome. One suggested that he felt it
was a Sun bug about the wrench light. The most intriguing was to shut down
the machine, cycle the power and the light should go off and stay off.
Well, I did that, and also logged a call with Sun. As soon as I powered off
the machine, and brought it up into single-user mode, sure enough, the light
was gone. I was about to back to the console and finish booting when
another local CE came by and had the clock board. Since he was here and I
was already in single-user mode, I decided to have him replace it anyway for
peace-of-mind. So he did and no more wrench light.

Original question:

I hav an E4500 with four processors, 4 GB RAM, and running Solaris 8, and is
fully patched. After rebooting yesterday, one of the yellow wrench lights
came on the front. The only part of the system that had another yellow
light was right above the main board in the back. I've been told that this
is the clock board. I talked to one of our local CEs and he told me to get
it replaced soon, but not like immediately. The system has been up since
yesterday and this CE said that if the system came up in this condition, he
thinks it can go for a week or two before fixinig it. On the other hand,
calling Sun on the phone about it last night, I was talking to a another guy
who said get this done ASAP. Now I really don't want to take down our
production server after it was already down yesterday, but if I have to, I
have to. Does anybody have any experience on the urgency of this? Can it
wait say till Tuesday, or is this one thing you would take care like ASAP?
I will summarize. Thanks.

Grant
