Thank you all for your input.

Unfortunately I couldn't try all the answers due to time constraints.

One of you had the answer that worked.

Use the full original path of the file that needs to be restored.

cpio -iBv "/dir/subdir1/subdir2/BILLING.22" < /dev/rmt/0

When I get a chance, I'll try on a shorter tape the various options and
report back with my findings.

Thanks again!

Subject: What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to restore a certain file from a tape of a cpio arvhive.

When I list the tape (cpio -iBtv < /dev/rmt/0 ) it shows up, but when I
tried to retrieve it (cpio -iBv "BILLING.*" < /dev/rmt/0 ) non were
restored.

There are several BILLING jobs with numbers from 17 - 22, but non
restored.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to specify the whole path of the file?
If I do, and if I don't use the -d option will it restore the file in
the current dir rather then the path it was backed up from?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I will summarize
