That's probably because UUCP does its own handshaking. Its default
handshaking throttles the connection so that you shouldn't have any
problems even at 38400 bps. But if you use interactive programs like
kermit or tip, watch out! At 38400 bps you'll hang an ELC's builtin
serial ports, and maybe even crash Solaris 2.2. SunOS 4.1.2 works fine.
