Yes, this is the way it's supposed to be - but do a
'strings - /usr/lib/sendmail | grep /var' on both SunOS 4.x and 5.x, and
be surprised... The reason for this is of course the ugly 'OR' hack.
Still, it is correct that it doesn't have any effect on, but
under the circumstances I don't think this is a feature...

(I.e. if one really thinks it is appropriate for sendmail to go and peek
in the directory commonly used for local delivery, the name of that
directory should of course be in, not hardwired in the binary
- as should the rules to cause forwarding to the host the directory is
NFS-mounted from, if it is.)
