Summary: Licensing/copyright issues with Java sdk & jre

I'm pretty sure that Java is 100% free. 

I think that licensing is independent of how an
application is packaged. I have free stuff that was
packaged (I used pkgadd to install it, it shows up in
pkginfo output, etc), and I have packages that have
all kinds of licenses. I also have expensive stuff
with multiple licenses that shipped as a tar file, and
free stuff that wasn't packaged in Sun's pkg format. I
do notice that most licensed stuff is packaged, and
most free stuff shows up as a tar, cpio, or ZIP
archive, but that's just a reflection of the time and
effort required to package things.

Packages are way cool. They tend to go in more
smoothly, the installation has built-in tests to
branch based on your OS version and just about
anything else that the packager deems as significant.
