Thank you to all who responded!!! The general consensus was to use screen which is available at sunfreeware.com as well as other locations. Other suggestions included using the gnu debugger and even VNC. Screen is working for them. My favorite comment came from Doug Winter who suggested using screen but added "I would recommend instead that they build a proper api into their program." Which was very good advice.
