Summary:time since epoch in secs

Thanks to all who had replied to my posting.
the best answer I got to find time since epoch is :

/usr/bin/truss /usr/bin/date 2>&1 | /usr/bin/awk '/^time/ {print $NF}'

the other option is :

perl -e 'print time;'
