SUMMARY: Xsession/CDE/OpenWindows problem

My original question is below concerning the very slow startup of the CDE
and OpenWindows on a Solaris 7 Ultra 10. Thanks to the following for their
responses;

Casper Dik
chakravarthi s viswanadh
Mark Hargrave
Steve Sandau
Eric Priebe
Deborah Santomauro

Nobody actually came up with the magic solution but I did manage to fix it
myself (although I'm not 100% convinced I know why). Special thanks to
Chakravarthi for a detailed description of the Xsession boot phase.

Most of you told me to check the /etc/hosts and IP name of the machine. These
were all OK, the /etc/hosts file was correct and the IP name had not been
changed only the IP number. So /etc/hostname.<*> and /etc/nodename were OK.
I could ping to, and from, the machine fine and nslookup worked. Even NIS
worked fine. I have done the IP number change lots of times without using
sysunconfig and usually there were no problems.

What I did find was that the old network mask had been set in /etc/netmasks.
Changing this to the new mask seemed to solve the problem. However I had
also made some changes in the DNS server that should not have been relevant,
so I cannot be sure.

Thanks for all your help.
