and sorry if I forgot anyone else.

Recommendations:

rdist, NIS/NIS+, and cfengine were suggested the most. NIS/NIS+ or LDAP
for the user authentication portion, and cfengine or rdist for the file
alignment. I've not yet had a chance to set up cfengine, but it looks like
that is mostly what I was looking for. We already have some in house rdist
scripts, but I'd like to have something a little more robust.

Thanks everyone!

I'm curious as to the best way to keep various files aligned between all
servers in a multi-node cluster. Our cluster is only a 3 node cluster, but
the same concepts should apply. I'm referring to files like /etc/passwd,
/etc/shadow, /etc/group, /etc/system and so on. Files that you want to
remain consistent across all systems, and I don't want update three files
for each change.

One a two node cluster that we have, I've got a simple rdist script that
1st checks to see which system is active, and then compares files from a
list to that on the in-active server, aligning them accordingly. So if I
change a user's passwd on one system, I don't have to do it on both
systems.

Is there an efficient way of doing this on more than 2 servers? What do
people with large multi-node clusters do? We're running 3 4500's, Solaris
2.8 and VCS 2.0.

I will summarize. Thanks!
