Gurus,
After I did the steps below to disable the power management feature on
my Blade 1000. I was still suffering from the HDD spinning down ! When
try to wake the machine up a funny sound can be heard from the HDD. At
last I found an OBP variable called energystar-enabled? set to true,
when change it to false everything went fine !

So the solution to my problem was:
  Ok setenv energystar-enabled? False
Or from Solaris
  /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/eeprom energystar-enabled?=False

PS: I did not find any reference to this variable on docs.sun.com !!!!

Thanks

Osama Ahmed

Well, sorry to post this trivial question. The behavior of Blade is not
like the machine I knew before (Ultra 60). I have never seen the Ultra
60 go to this hibernation mode (I mean spinning down the HD and taking a
long time to wake up ) !
I have searched sunsolve and docs.sun.com for a "Standby mode" keyword
not for power management !

Here is the solution:
 * use these utilities to control the power management
    - /usr/openwin/bin/dtpower
    - pmconfig

 * Kill the powerd process, and disable the powerd startup script
(/etc/rc2.d/S85power ). You may also rename /etc/power.conf file.

Thanks.

Gurus,

When left SUNBlade 1000 idle for a period of time it looks like it goes
to a hypernation or standby mode.

How can I disable this ?

PS: I have searched docs.sun.com; sunsolve.sun.com but did not find any
pointer. any help would help

Thanks

Osama Ahmed
