First, all networking works fine except Netscape, so there's no problem
with DNS, nsswitch or resolv.conf.
However, I shut off nscd as a matter of course. Apparently, Netscape
requires either a proxy or nscd to be running. The old version of
Netscape that I had (4.7) running on my Solaris 2.6 box did not require
this -- nscd was turned off, and it worked fine. The new version (4.75 --
not the version included with Solaris 8, but my own fresh install) running
on Solaris 8 apparently requires it, because as soon as I turned nscd on,
it worked. I guess I'm stuck running nscd. At least this isn't a server.
