Look into kerberos.

Not sure if it works on NT or not, but, if it does, it's an excellent
system.

Try nisgina its good ,
look for it on sunworld ,there's a few good articels on it.

We are currently using NDS Ldap to do the authentication. You can
download the doc from our web site:

We are not currently using it, however we have researched it and are
planning on implementing this same thing in our shop. Our intent is to use
Win2000's Active directory with the UNIX services for windows, which
provides NIS services. Alternatively, we will authenticeate directly using
LDAP, but we are not far enough along with LDAP to know how feasible this
is. Our preference would be to use a UNIX box for authentication, however
we are realistic enough to know that if you try to play outside of the
Microsoft sandbox, you are likely to get a face full of MS Sand.

You could use an LDAP directory. Or use different directory services for
each platform. Each syncing up with each other using Perl and Perl modules
for example.

From: Chip Christian <chip@princetonecom.com>

We're using NDS Corporate Edition for Solaris. If you're already using
NDS for your NT desktops, it's great.

From: "Jangalwa, Raj" <Raj.Jangalwa@nickonline.com>

Try using USF (Unix Services for NT) for NT , initially you will have to
create logins on both NT and Unix box and once that is done, it syncronizes
the passwd between both the machines.

SunLink PC. This is Sun's implementation of NT server on UNIX. You can use
one system--a Sun system--for both NT and UNIX authentication, and export
your UNIX passwd database to the NT side.

SunLink PC is being shipped with all Sun "server" systems.

I have had sucess with iPlanet LDAP directory server for Solaris 7 & 8
authentication intergration with NT 4.0. I would be very interested to
know how well it intergrates with 2K. You may also want to talk to a
David Laporte (dlaporte@ccs.neu.edu) who helped me a while back with the
same subject (he is one of the current NIS LDAP iPlanet scheme heads)

From: Peter Gutmann <peterg@murphy.com>

You might want to have a look at LDAP (www.openldap.com) with Samba as
the PDC for NT.

From: "Jeff Kennedy" <jkennedy@amcc.com>

I haven't done it yet but am planning on NDS for Solaris. The older
version was less functional as rsh did not work through NDS. The newer
version does work with everything (so they say).

There are probably other solutions as well but I don't know about them.

It might be time for you to start reading about Samba, this utility will
allow
you to do such a thing. It's freely available in the Internet.
From: Alex STEPNEY <A.Stepney@cs.ucl.ac.uk>

take a look a Samba: www.samba.org

you'll need the latest CV's to be able to do domain logins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From: gabramov@cpe.uchicago.edu

You can use samba server.

From: "Caparrosso, Nelson T." <Nelson.T.Caparrosso@Mail.AAS.ameritech.com>

You may want to look at LDAP or Active Directory Services...
