Hi all !

Thanks to everyone who replied.

The resolution to the problem appears to have been ......

We have only just noticed (doh !) that the disks differed slightly

3. c0t10d0 <SEAGATE-ST336704LC-0002 cyl 14087 alt 2 hd 12 sec 424>
          /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/sd@a,0
4. c0t12d0 <SEAGATE-ST336704LC-0001 cyl 14087 alt 2 hd 12 sec 424>
          /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/sd@c,0

We formatted and labelled selecting both disks the same disk type

-0002 > -0001

and the system no longer dumps on the vtoc.

Again thanks to everyone who took the time and trouble

regards

Tony

ORIGINAL POST

Hi all !

I have an Enterprise 250 running Solaris 7 (32-bit) with the following disks:

# format
Searching for disks...done

          /pci@1f,2000/scsi@1/sd@2,1

I want to install Sybase onto the two 36Gb drives, however after labelling
etc, If the system is rebooted the disks LOSE their labels:-
