My original question:
> Hi Gurus,
> I'm denied permission as root to rcp a file from System1 to (to and from) System2. My entries in /.rhosts file and /etc/hosts files are just fine. I can also rcp files from System2 to (to and from)System1 but not the other way around. The problem could have been solved by doing it from System2 but it's for a user who has root access to System1 but I cant allow her root access to System2. Both my systems are running Solaris7.
> Any Ideas?

Thanks to all the responses especially to Mark Olson and Michael Arndt.
The problem lied in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file. I use DNS for the name resolution service. Once I added dns after the files in hosts: in System2
System2:/etc/nsswitch.conf
hosts: files dns

It wroked just fine. But the weird thing is earlier I could rcp and rlogin without using passwd to any systems from System1 but not to System2. And I can do the same thing from System2 to any Systems including system1. The only problem was rlogin rsh and rcp from System1 to System2. which is solved now.
