To convert password file from SunOS to Solaris,
there is a command 'pwconv' can convert password file
format from SunOS to Solaris.
All rest of NIS maps can be copied over.

thanks

I'm going to upgrade my NIS server from SunOS 4.1.4 to
 Solaris 2.6.
I've already built a Solaris 2.6 system and I'm going to shutdown
SunOS server and rename Solaris server to keep the same NIS hostname.

But I'm not sure how to transfer the existing NIS maps,
especially passwd file. Does copy NIS maps over work?
The passwd control on Solaris are two files, /etc/passwd and
 /etc/shadow, vs. /etc/passwd on SunOS.

What I'm planning to do is coping all the NIS map to new server
then run 'ypinit' on Solaris 2.6 server.

If you have done this upgrading, please share it to me.

 Thanks, and I'll summarize.
