SUMMARY: limit shell access - allow FTP

Thanks to everyone for a prompt reply... 33 in all. The question dealt with our need to limit shell access on 7.0 to a limited group of users yet provide FTP capabilities to all accounts. The overwhelming choice and what we implemented:

Create the file /etc/shells and place the shells used, one per line, with one of those being /usr/bin/false. In /etc/passwd set /usr/bin/false for those users who do not need shell access.
