Sorry, for the delay in summarizing, but I had to wait to reboot the
machine after the fix was applied to check it had worked.
Thanks to Adrian Cole, Sandeep Patni and Steve Turgeon, who all suggested
applying patch # 105795-05, which has solved my problem.
Thanks to all others who responded with checking duplex setting
on the switch etc.
