summary : cron entry

Thanks to all those who replied.

My original question was

I have an entry in the crontab as follows

00 16 * * * "/usr/ucb/ps -aux" 1>/tmp/ps.`date +%m%d%y`

But when this executes it creates /tmp/ps. but not /tmp/ps.mmddyy.

Can anyone please tell me why it is so......

The solution for the same is

since % is special character we need to add \ before %.
