Dear All,
Thanks for all who replied:
Chad Price,
Timothy P. Peterman,
Jochen Berg.
My original question was the following:
"We are using an MTA that can not write to a user's mailbox file while
mailtool is in use. No problems were detected by using other mail clients.
It seems that mailtool holds a lock on the user's mailbox file while it is
in use even if the user does nothing.
Is that true? If so, what is the correct solution?
My OS is: Solaris 7 (SPARC)"
Jochen wrote the following:
"Dunno about Solaris 7, but I remember that when I installed procmail
(which we have sendmail use as local mailer), the installation
instructions had an extra (quite hidden :-} ) paragraph on how to
compile procmail so that it correctly cooperates with mailtool in
terms of file locking. OTOH & IIRC, that was about mailtool *not*
setting some more recent type of locks ..."
The final solution to this problem was the following:
1. start 'mailtool'
2. go to 'Edit' menu
3. select 'Properties' submenu
4. select 'Expert' category
5. set 'Use network aware mail file locking'
6. apply the changes
Regards,
Bertold
