The permissions were incorrect. Also the permissions on the
root directoy were incorrect. That was the reason the users
were able to login, but were logged out immediately with the
message No Directory!.

Maybe the permission and/or ownership is wrong. Try this:
Boot single user then:
# egrep mm@0:zero /var/sadm/install/contents
/devices/pseudo/mm@0:zero c none 13 12 0666 root sys SUNWcsd
^^^^ ^^^^ ^^^
these are the expected
permissions, owner and
group
# ls -lL /dev/zero
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 13, 12 Dec 16 1997 /dev/zero
make sure the permissions and ownership are correct. Notice in the
contents file the major and minor device numbers are shown. You might
want to verify those as well
