Hello all!
A long time ago, i had this question:
I have a server (os server) running Solaris 2.5.1 May 96 Rev A. I want
to upgrade this to Solaris 2.5.1 HW:11.97 with all recommended patches.
It is possible to update only the operating system without
deinstalling DiskSuite, backup software and other server related tools???
Manpages say, i have to deinstall Disksuite. I running /export via
DiskSuite and i have moved some directories from /opt to /export/opt
(with links to /opt).
Well, i got some answers and at last - after hours of work - i changed
my plans. I don't know what is wrong with my server (or with me ;-).
The reason for the upgrade was to use Ultra 5 and Ultra 10 as AutoClients.
So i decided to use another host as 2.5.1-OS Server. This was easier ...
Some hints from the answers are perhaps important for others:
- Installing the current patches will change older Solaris versions to
the 11/97 release. (I don't know, if this works really ...)
- Patchdiag is a tool to check the status of installed patches. You
will find patchdiag on the SunSolve CD . Ref-files are located here:
ftp://sunsolve.sun.com/pub/patches/patchdiag.xref
- You can't run an upgrade if you have disksuite metadevices being used
for /, /usr, /var, and /opt.
