Thanks to everyone who wrote about playing CDs on Solaris 2.6
the answer is workman which is avaliable from you local archive.

if you cannot find the code any where else try
ftp://src.doc.ic.ac.uk/pub/Mirrors/ftp.x.org/contrib/applications/WorkMan

It works ok but seems to need audiotool to control the volume.
I do not know where to get xmcd. I presume this is part of the X11r4/5/6
distribution.

Assuming you have anything but a Darwin with IDE CDROM you can use the nice
little program workman. Current version is 1.3a (July 1998), but a 1.3 is
available precomplied at http://smc.vnet.net/solaris_2.5_list.html#workman.
