SUMMARY: Sparc can't see particular machine

Thanks to everyone who replied, all the suggestions were good and
appreciated. But most we had tried already, and the ones we hadn't
didn't work either. At this point I am going to sys-unconfig and see
what happens. I'll update if it works, and if it doesn't I'll either
re-install or.................

Here is a list of what was done, at least as much as I can remember.

Checked hosts defaultrouter defaultdomain nsswitch.conf nsswitch.files
and netmasks files

Tried arp -d s2 (on s4) and got "no entry" (correct ip address)
Tried arp s2 and got same
Tried arp -d s4 (on s2) and got same
Tried arp s4 and got same

Netstat -rn showed correct routes for both
Both machines can talk to each others networks (one is inside the
firewall and the other is outside)
Traceroute from s2 to s4 (inside to out) goes to the firewall and stops
Traceroute from s4 to s2 goes nowhere
Route to default routers for each machine are good
Route between the 2 default routers is good

Snoop between the 2 shows squat
Snoop on the s2 shows standard traffic from anywhere but s4
Snoop on s4 shows standard traffic from anywhere but s2

        Not running NIS or NIS+
        Not using tcp wrappers

Name resolution works fine for both machines

All are running Solaris 2.6 with patches

I think that pretty much sums it up. Maybe it wasn't as obvious as I
thought.

Original question follows:

Hello all,

We have a Sparc2 that can get to every machine on our network but one, a
Sparc4. The Sparc 4 can get to every other machine but the Sparc2. We
have checked all the obvious files and configs and even some that we
don't think would affect it but we checked anyway. Doing an nslookup
from the Sparc4 shows the machine and the ip number of the Sparc2 but if
I telnet to the hostname it will eventually timeout. Same for using ip
address. Can't ping S2 from S4 either but can ping it from anywhere
else.

Anyone have an idea? I'm sure we're missing something obvious.

Thanks
