Here is a summary of all the different racking options there are.

The overall summary is that the best bet may be to purchase non SUN equipment, but rather 3rd party re-marketed SUN compatible boxes that will fit in any number of standard 19" racks.

There are two very good solutions for original sun equipment from Atrecon and Sharkrack. The Atrecon SPhinx Chassis look like a very good solution plus they have the ability to add hot swappable external drive bays for use with your Ultra 1,2, Ent2 and sparc desktops.

The Sharkrack units are a very good looking and high quality full rack system as well. Sharkrack has a VERY nice Large keyboard mounting unit that allows you to swing out the full keyboard and mouse and then swing the arm back into the mounting kit and slide that back into the rack. For those of use who can't/won't buy some $3000 mil-std keyboard, this is the answer. (Their web page has a good animated gif that shows how it works (http://www.sharkrack.com/key.html).

A few folks have suggested just using a shelf and going with that. One person even suggessted remove the units cover and using bungy cords to keep it down. Others suggested using velcro straps or whatever works.

Some of the higher enterprise units are rack mountable and SUN has a couple of options available now and more slated for the future.

Here is a listing of sites and/or products mentioned:

www.artecon.com
www.sharkrack.com
Vero Electronics (www.vero-usa.com
www.integrix.com
Schroff Racks
Texas Micro backplane rackmount boxes
Chatsworth Products
Hendry Products (shelves for 23" racks)
Of course checkout SunExpress for the list they have

I had over 17 responses and all were very helpful.

Goodluck with your search for rack info

Matt
