hi,
after reallocated the internal hard disk at target 10 slot to target 2
slot in SUN E3000 system, and add "set scsi_options = 0x3f8" line into
/etc/system file, scsiinfo show below result;
     fas0 : type 0 (FAS366) speed 40 MHz
     fas0 : sd0 , 0 tgt 0 lun 0
Synchronous (2.667MB/sec) Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd1 , 0 tgt 1 lun 0
Synchronous (10MB/sec) Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd2 , 0 tgt 2 lun 0
Synchronous (10MB/sec) Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd3 , 0 tgt 3 lun 0
Synchronous (10MB/sec) Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd5 , 0 tgt 5 lun 0
       Asynchronous Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd6 , 0 tgt 6 lun 0
       Asynchronous Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow

seems like the target 5 tape drive & target 6 cd-rom drive have cause
the problem. but the boot disk still read as very low transfer rate
2.667MB/sec. as what I know,E3000 was specifically designed for 10
internal SCSI2 disks with the maximum bus lenght goes to 3 meters, the
problem lies in the phasing out of SCSI2 disks and the mixture of
ultrascsi and scsi2 devices in the system and for ultra 2 maximum bus
length 1.5 meters. so, what is the better way to maximize the transfer
rate in this system? any further advises or suggestions would be
appreciated!
thanks in advance.

best regards,
nico

my original question:
hi all,
my system SUN E3000(SCSI-2 bus interface) machine running on SUNOS 5.5.1
256MB RAM.
the hard disk setup():
            target 0 - Seagate ST34371WC(UltraSCSI){OS disk}
            target 1 - Seagate ST34371WC(UltraSCSI)
            target 3 - Seagate ST34572WC(UltraSCSI)
            target 5 - tape drive target 6 - cd-rom
            target 10 -Seagate ST34371WC (UltraSCSI)
I have collected some scsi information by run the "scsiinfo" script.
the result as below:
     fas0 : type 0 (FAS366) speed 40 MHz
     fas0 : sd0 , 0 tgt 0 lun 0
Synchronous (2.667MB/sec) Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd1 , 0 tgt 1 lun 0
Synchronous (10MB/sec) Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd3 , 0 tgt 3 lun 0
       Asynchronous Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd6 , 0 tgt 6 lun 0
       Asynchronous Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sda , 0 tgt 10 lun 0
       Asynchronous Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
     fas0 : sd5 , 0 tgt 5 lun 0
       Asynchronous Clean NoTogged Queuing Narrow
from above result, seems like the os disk transfer rate(2.667MB/sec)
very low than expected(20MB/sec) on Fast Wide SCSI-2.
anybody now why target 3 & 10(a) are asynchronous mode and no transfer
rate reading? why they are recognize as "Narrow", not "Wide"? anyway to
increase the transfer rate? do I need to ON togged queuing? I have go
through some sunmanager faq, but non of the problem happen on SUN E3000
as my case. please advice. I will summary.
best reagds,nico
