I can forget about connecting a ZIP drive (or similar) to the
parallel port under Solaris, as the drivers don't exist.
Under Linux this seems to be possible:

Using a ZIP drive (Sun UFS and MS VFAT) via the SCSI port is a
possibility as I thought - you'll need mtools.
