Sorry for taking so long to provide a summary, but I wanted to make sure
we got the radius server working before I posted a summary. First, thanks
goes to the following people:
Deepak Vaidya
Douglas Purdy
Benjamin Cline
Aaron Lineberger
Brian Platt
Dan Pritts
Aaron Dewell
Kristine Wagner
Brian Sherwood
William Bulley
Flavio Elizalde
They told me where I could get a radius server that runs under Solaris:
livingston radius 1.16.1 and 2.0.1:
www.livingston.com
ftp.livingston.com
http://www.merit.edu/aaa
Cistron, and Radiator
[www|ftp].computone.com
www.ascend.com
The most popular ones seemed to be livingston's and Merit's. I concentrated
my efforts on livingston's 1.16.1 server since I heard about them first.
I can't say anything good or bad about any of the other's mentioned.
My goal was to have our terminal server do PPP user authentication via the
Solaris passwd/shadow file. Here's the user file's entry that I used to
get it working:
DEFAULT Password = "UNIX"
User-Service-Type = Framed-User,
Framed-Protocol = PPP,
Framed-Address = 255.255.255.254,
Framed-Netmask = 255.255.255.255,
Framed-Compression = Van-Jacobsen-TCP-IP
What took so long to get it working was that we had our terminal server
set up incorrectly. We had CHAP authenication activated. Apparently,
if CHAP is being used, the radius server will not check the passwd/shadow
files. So we had to use PAP instead.
If you're wondering why I used 1.16.1 instead of 2.0.1. There was confusion
as to whether version 2.0.1 is supposed to be free or only available to
Livingston customers. I played it safe and used the 1.16.1 version which
I couldn't find any documentation saying that it wasn't publicly free. Also,
I was able to get the source code.
Thanks again to those of you who pointed those sites out to me....Steven.
