Hello Managers,
We were able to solve the problem in booting the Solaris m/c into multi-user mode.
I thank all who had given me suggestion in solving the problem.
Summary:
We changed the /etc/nsswitch.conf file as follows ( in the hosts field)

hosts: files dns nis (instead of hosts: dns files nis )

The fact is that when ever a Solaris machine boots up it looks for hosts
database to add a static route for the multicast packets for a default
interface, since the /etc/nsswitch.conf suggests a dns lookup for the hosts table , the
machine will query the dns server and hence the delay .This is not happening
for all the machine but some machines are ???

Thanks
Vasu

Subject: Problem in booting Solaris 2.5.1 in multi-user mode, with Cabletron MMAC Plus switch

Hello managers,
We have problem in booting Solaris 2.5.1 machines in multi-user mode
connected to 10/100MBPS and 10MBPS switched cards 9H422-12 and 9E423-36 in
a MMAC PLUS from Cabletron Systems.
The system hangs after the le0 is up, and this happens to most of the
machines connected to this switch, but the strange thing is few machines
with Solaris 2.5.1 connected to the same switch boots normally.
later we found that after the system boots in single user mode , we added
the default gateway and it builds the ARP table and upon exit the system
comes up normally to the multi-user mode.
We swapped the ports from working ones to the other but the problem still
exists and we replaced this with a new card on the MMAC Plus and still no
break through. I appreciate any help in solving the problem.

Thanks
Vasu
