I received one reply (which I managed to loose while fighting some
other fires here).

The message comes from xemacs an is supposed to be harmless. Since
these messages started to appear about the time that we began
using the new Sun workshop software which includes xemacs, I suspect
that this was the cause.

No suggestions as to how to stop the messages. If they became a serious
problem, I suspect that /etc/syslog.conf could be modified to ignore them.
