Fellow Sun Managers,

Thanks for the feedback on wiping my hard disks for return to vendor.

If I want GUARANTEED data destruction then military standard techniques
are :
* touch platter with iron-core magnet
* degause the surface in a degaussing oven
* have an accident with the drive

Also, professional data destoyers are available to those who want

For the rest :
* Format - perform (multiple) surface analysis at purge level followed
by repartitioning in standard configuration

* Diskscan has a destructive switch (-W) but it seems to be for x86
only. This is similar to the format option

* dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/dsk/mydisk

In general people felt that anyone with the technolgy and resources to
recover data from a formatted (or whatever disk) could compromise the
security of my company by other methods if they felt so inclined.
