>Hello All,

>Well, I'm sorry if this is answered in the Answerbook, but I have no
>Answerbook to check. I have, however, checked the FAQ and the manpage,
>and I cannot seem to find an explanation for this particular behavior.

First, I'd like to thank the following folks:

matthew.stier@tddny.fujitsu.com (Matthew Stier)
"Christopher M. Conway" <cmconwa@sandia.gov>
Francis Liu <fxl@pulse.itd.uts.edu.au>
Tom Mornini <tmornini@infomania.com>
Mark Belanger <mjb@ltx.com>
Tom Henning <tom@waldtsvr.ksc.nasa.gov>
davem@fdgroup.co.uk (David Mitchell)
"Mitchell, Andrew" <mitcheah@RYH1BT.BT.CO.UK>
nobroin@esoc.esa.de (Niall O Broin)
vqh@dwrock.dw.lucent.com (D461-Viet_Q_Hoang(0)82572)

If I've forgotten someone, sorry -- it's solely due to an error in cut &
paste.

I've been informed by all these folks that by default UFS reserves 10% of
all drive space to be used by Root only. Altho it is mentioned in the man
page, it is done in a very vague manner, and is not easily apparent if this
particular feature of UFS is not known.

As of right now, I'm losing over 800Meg of a 9-gig drive for news due to
this feature, so I plan on changing the default 10% to 1%.

Several folks also informed me on how this is done, and here's the
appropriate commands for such:

# umount /usr/local/news/spool
# tunefs -m 1 -o time /dev/dsk/c0t2d0s0
# mount /usr/local/news/spool

The extra 800 Megs will come in very handy, and again, I thank everyone on
this list -- especially those that responded -- for helping me with this
dilemma.

Tho I seem to be lacking in UFS knowledge, I am pretty good with mailers --
qmail in particular. If anyone has questions, concerns, or just need
general information on qmail (including upgrading from sendmail to qmail)
please feel free to contact me via e-mail at the address below.

Thanks again!
Roger "Merch" Merchberger
