Well, the suggestions have stopped coming in, and the problem seems to be
fixed now.
In the end, I couldn't find anything actually *wrong*. Ann suggested that
a reboot was the solution. I could have *sworn* that a reboot occurred
after reconfiguring the system, but apparently either it didn't, or it
needed another reboot to clear everything up.
At any rate, I rebooted, it's up correctly now.
