Hi all, well I didn't have too much luck with my question, so here are the
observations:
1. My case was with UNIPACKS, where did I mention multipacks in my mail?
Anyways, as everybody knows multipacks have fixed IDs by drive
position in the pack.
2. As far as I know, all Unipacks come with wide-SCSI drives, dont' they?
3. Even though these are wide SCSI drives old Unipack enclusures don't let
me select IDs over 6.
4. 7 is reserved for the controller (my mistake, I feel embarrased)
5. It seems that new Unipack enclosures do allow to select high order IDs.
6. Somebody pointed that even if you chain more than 7 drives the chain
would be too long and data errors could occur. I'm using the short
Sun's SCSI cables, the ones 5' long so I might be lucky.
So it's seems that high SCSI IDs are not posible with my Unipack drives.
Hmm... maybe it's time to openup the drive enclosure and hack something
out.
Thanks to all who sent me replies, I had plenty of them, thanks!
