Original:

I was wondering how solaris differentiates a primary network interface
from other network interfaces.

I understand that it can be changed using sys-unconfig, but are there
other ways?

Summary:

Thanks to Casper Dik, Judi Connelly, Matthew Stier, Greg Price and
Jacques Rall.

Solaris does not differentiate a primary interface. There are some programs
out their (OpenVision HA) which require specific configurations. Some of
which mention the primary network interface. By this they mean the
interface to which the nodename of the system resolves to.
