I have got any answer from listing yet, and I fixed the problem.

original question:
-----------------
Hi, Sun-managers:

SparcServer 1000, Slaris 2.4

there is a directory as follow:

dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 2 Jan 24 16:12 /var/tmp.bak

I could not use "chmod" command to change permission of this directory,
I can use "mv" command to rename it.

When I used chmod command, i got:
chmod: WARNING: can't change tmp.bak.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

-----------------------------------
Solution:.

The /var/tmp.bak on machine AA was automounted on BB:/var/rtmp, when someone modified
/etc/dfs/sdftab on BB system, "accident" delete line which exported /var/rtmp,
so when AA try to automount BB:/var/rtmp on its local /var/tmp.bak,
it could not find the directory, that is why....

So I disable the automount and reboot system then the dirctory /var/tmp.bak
can be removed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I fixed it, now everything looks ok.

So, do not worry, no one can mixup the system.

Ying
