My original question:
How can a system interface (quad port device) be made available?

Answer: The quad port devices use the qeN (instead of leN)) and can be
made available with> ifconfig qeN plumb <. Thus the boot will look
like> /etc/hostname.qeN.

On our system> prtconf < display our quad interface like the
following:

        ledma, instance #0
            le, instance #0
        qec, instance #1
            qe, instance #4
            qe, instance #5
            qe, instance #6
            qe, instance #7
        lebuffer, instance #0
            le, instance #1

... and thus our first quad port (third NIC) will be qe4.

Thanks
