Guess what? We recently attached (then disconnected) a modem from
/dev/term/a. Since then, we haven't been able to use /dev/term/a
as we did before.

Seems that switching to /dev/cua/a solves this problem. As for why,
I'm not sure who knows. Maybe it's a bug in the port monitor stuff.

Here's the winning reply -

"For some reason, /dev/term/a tends to have its service disconnected
and I do not know why. In another case, it was because the user
had some modem connected to it, and then took the modem off - I don't
know if this means anything to you.

However, the user did have a similar problem - Admintool stated
"No Service" and SUN Tech Support advised them to try /dev/cua/a."

Thanks to Ryan Bae for this information!
