The original question:
################################################################################
Oh wise Sun guru's:

Our IS department (in it's infinite wisdom) has decided to use an RS/6000 as the
corporate mail server. Unfortunately, Suns' mailtool does not work properly
when the mail server is an RS/6000. I don't have the exact skinny on the
problem, but I've been told it has something to do with tool talk.

Well, enough of my problems. The question is this: Does anyone know of a
graphical mail tool that I can load on my Sun (Solaris 2.X) that will allowme
access to the RS/6000? Or is it possible to somehow tweak and use the
mailtool provided by Sun?
################################################################################

I haven't tried it yet, but the most obvious suggetion was to use the local
mail directories on the Sun, and to use aliases on the IBM to forward the mail
directly to the Sun hosts. This is probably the route we will use.

Thank you for your suggestions, the complete responses are below:

Why not put an alias in the AIX host for you, that forwards your mail
directly to your Sun ? I do the same.

Yes - you should be able to export the /var/mail (or whatever it is on the RS/6000) directory and mount it just fine on the sun. Locking and file access are all that are required... ________________________________________________________________________________ From: "Andrew Rouch" <andrewr@ncd.com.au>

Zmail for Motif has Solaris and AIX versions and can talk SMTP or POP to the mailhost.

Otherwise, can you NFS mount the mailboxes to your Solaris hosts? If so, keep using Mailtool and have sendmail on the NFS clients point to the AIX box as the relay host. ________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks again!
