SUMMARY: MP under SunOS 4.1.3 and locking out CPU's

      Hello,
Thanks to all who responded to my three question concerning MP under
SunOS 4.1.3 using Sparc 10 Model 30's. Here are the answers I
received:

  1) Even though MP may not be supported, anyone have experience
doing MP with 2 or 4 CPU's on the Sparc 10/30 under SunOS?

Quite a few people seem to be running dual processors under SunOS
4.1.x, but Model 30 and early model 40 CPU's will not MP dues to bugs
in the CPU. Model 50 and above work. Some people say that Dual CPU's
under 4.1.x only "mostly work". Personal experience with a Model 502
causes me to lean towards the "mostly work" statement.

  2) The Sparc 10/30 can handle 4 CPU's - right?

The Sparc 10 can handle 2 CPU modules. So 4 CPU's are only supported
if you have dual CPU modules (eg. ROSS Hypersparc quad CPU modules).

  3) Can a program be locked on to a single CPU? Multiple instances
of the program can run, but they may only use one of the CPU's.

The command 'pbind' does this under Solaris (to some extend) - nothing
available to do this under SunOS.

Conclusion:

    1) Sparc 10/30's cannot be multi-processed.
    2) Switch to Solaris.
