Hallo all,

I had a problem with a SLIP connection. Here is what I did to solve it. Thanks to
Brad w. I "solve" the problem. Brad suggested to use the 'dp' program. I tried that
, but..... It's very good for ppp I guess, but I wanted to use SLIP. (The Internet
supplier use it, that's why).

Thanks to the dp-mail archive found on that computer Brad sugguested, I ftp'd ppp-2.04
from merit.edu/pub/ppp/sunos-new and used the program chat. And that's all I needed.

In a shell script the chat program contacts the supplier and after that I start slip with slattach.
Works perfectly

An other question to answer is:

Where did you get a working SLIP for Solaris 2.4 from???

>From Sun pcnfs. It's OK :-)

Again Thanks and perhaps I can help sometime.........

Below you find the original question and the answers I got.

 Theo Dibbets

                                                                        My original question was:

Sun Sparc IPX
Solaris 2.4
28k8 tron modem.

I have set up a SLIP connection by hand using tip (for dailing the phone number
and started slattach dev MY-IP HOST-IP SPEED. Now I want this actions automatically.

My question is:

 - Is there a communication program which can start slattach after the
          connection is made.
I tried to re-compile the tip version which come with the software slip40
          whithout succes.

Any suggestion how to set up dail-up SLIP is welcome.

Thanks

Have a look at `expect' which will do this sort of thing.

drop all this in favor of dp-4.0alpha.. fairly stable.. also, supports lots of things and is faster...

can be found at ftp.acn.purdue.edu.
