This was such a helpful solution that I thought it was a shame that it

As always, plenty of data, plenty quick! :-)

Two folks mentioned scsi-info 4.0beta, so I downloaded it and it compiled
fine. The URL is ftp://ftp.cdf.toronto.edu/pub/scsiinfo.

But the real answer to my question came all the way from Australia from
