It turns out there is a large amount of info available from sun
concerning this topic. Steven Lee from OpenSystems, Inc. (a Sun VAR)
provided a nice document of useful information he has obtained from
sun. It covers a variety of variables on all systems and is much to
lengthy to reprint.

I can forward any particular info if there is a need.
