Original inquiry:
I'm at a loss here. After scouring /usr/share/lib/zoneinfo, I
can't seem to find an appropriate timezone for Puerto Rico. They
do not observe Daylight Savings Time, and their standard time is
one hour ahead of EST (GST-4). I think the timezone is actually
called Atlantic Standard Time, but there's no equivalent in the
zoneinfo directory. This is probably pretty simple, sorry to bring
such a trivial request to the list. (Although my customers in PR
certainly didn't like the sudden change in their clocks last week.)
Summary:
First, I forgot to mention I am using SunOS 4.1.3. There's no
reference to Puerto Rico, although it seems there is in later OS
versions (or zoneinfo versions..)
There are ftp sites that have up-to-date versions of the zoneinfo
database, although they may need recompiling (using 'zic'). One such
site is "elsie.nci.nih.gov". (Although this doesn't help me at the
moment, I don't have full Internet access :( )
I went with GMT-4. It doesn't look very nice in the "date" command,
but it will provide the correct timezone year-round. I suppose I
could link GMT-4 to "Atlantic" or "AST" or something...
