Original Problem:
>>Since adding this machine I have been getting strange cron related errors.
>>When I try to edit (crontab -e) root cron file I get:
>>"cron may not be running - call your system administrator"
>>I am the admin!
>>cron is running on the ss2 that serves !?!

This error was caused by mounting the /var/spool/cron directory
onto a workstation running the cron program out of the
/etc/rc file.
Two solutions:
1) Kill cron on the machine that fits the above description and
comment out the cron entry in /etc/rc.
or
2) Do not mount /var/spool/cron.
