Thanx to the following for their replies!:

John Dyson <> (Michael S. Fischer)

My orginal question:
I just upgraded a network from Solaris 2.3 to 2.4 and am having printing
problems sending jobs to HP JetDirect connected printers. I saw an old
sun-managers mail that looked like a similar problem and got the latest
hpnpf binary off of HP's ftp server, but that did not solve the problem.

In any case, the problem is this, when a print job of over 2 pages
is sent to the printer, it keeps on reprinting the cover page and the
same 2 pages over and over again.

[stuff deleted]

I have installed all the Solaris 2.4 recommended patches and noticed
that there wasn't any for the printing or the spooler (except an lp
jumbo patch, which didn't anything!). I also spoke to HP and they said
that the JetDirect software is not supported on Solaris 2.4. The current
version of the JetDirect software is v. C.02.00 for UNIX. HP has
v. C.02.17 available on their ftp server, could that possibly work?

Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so, was there a fix for it?

The Answer:
It turns out that the combination of a new, yet unreleased Solaris
2.4 kernel patch (T101945-23) and upgrading to HP JetDirect software
C.02.17 did the trick. The HP software upgrade is available on:

See the file Sol_install.README for installation instructions.

BTW-the "unofficial" kernel patch also fixes a bug with the INN Netnews
server software. In order to get this patch, you must talk to Sun
direct, it's not available on their ftp or WWW server yet. The patch
may acutally be up to rev 26 by now.

Thx for help!
