This info may help anyone who has followed the BIND 4.9.x installation
instructions to a "T" and then found their PCNFS clients broken
or extremely slow to boot-up. And/or anyone that applied the 4.1.x
libc patches or the 4.1.4 SunOS that similarily effected PCNFS/PLUM.

The problem is not with BIND but rather with the BIND installation
instruction that leads you to install Sun's libc patches prior
to installing BIND. The libc patches to 4.1.3 and 4.1.3_U1
(and 4.1.4 without patches) will typically break PLUM (rpc.plum)
and PCNFS (rpc.pcnfsd). PCNFS symptoms are slow booting and
wierd network printing problems.

To fix, you should apply one of the following PCNFS patches:

For PCNFS 5.0 apply patch 101998-02 (provides new NET.EXE)
For PCNFS 5.1 apply patch 102068-01 (AKA 5.1a jumbo patch)

The SunOS 4.1.x libc patches and 4.1.4 handle broadcasts differently, so
other services that rely on broadcasts may also be affected.

Regards-
Robert
